Integrated reMarkable Tutor

A handwriting-first AI tutor that lives on paper-like e-ink.

~30 s Red circle to marked answer Marked strictly against a real mark scheme.
0 tokens Cost while idle A 5 second poll over SSH that never touches a model.
3 Agents in parallel Red, blue and grey run at once, each in its own conversation.

What it does

You keep writing on paper-like e-ink the whole time. There is no app switching, no typing and no chat window. The pen colour is the interface:

  • Red circled around handwritten work: it gets marked, strictly, against a real mark scheme.
  • Blue circled around anything: it gets explained differently from how your notes explain it. Blue handwriting is read as a question and answered directly.
  • Grey writing: commands, from choosing the model and effort to starting a study timer or fetching a question’s figure from the source exam paper.
  • A grey box drawn around anything sends that crop, rendered from the source PDF, to the dashboard.

Replies arrive on a live dashboard with rendered maths, progress per workbook and module, a session cost meter, a stop control and study timers. It installs to a phone’s home screen, and an optional push notification follows you when you are away from the desk.

How it works

  1. 01 Write and circle Coloured pens on a reMarkable 2
  2. 02 Detect Stroke files read over SSH, colour parsed from the ink itself
  3. 03 Map Tablet coordinates mapped onto the source PDF page
  4. 04 Agent One conversation per workbook and colour, grounded in your materials
  5. 05 Reply Dashboard on computer and phone, optional push
The live loop, from ink to feedback

The tablet’s screen is monochrome, but its stroke files store the pen colour, so detection reads the ink rather than a screenshot. The desktop app’s cache lagged by as much as 26 minutes when measured, so the watcher goes straight to the tablet, where strokes land on disk within seconds. Idle time is free: the poll is a single file check over SSH, triggers are found geometrically and duplicates are filtered by hashing the coloured strokes.

More than a watcher

The watcher is the first piece of a larger platform. The workbook pipeline that sits behind it already turns raw course PDFs into a study corpus, write-on workbooks and the marking notes the agents work from. The next two pieces put that pipeline in other hands: a teacher dashboard for designing lessons, and a student dashboard for creating tutor agents from content a student uploads.

Where it is going

Roadmap

  1. Now

    The study loop

The tablet watcher, the three ink channels and the live dashboard. Built during a real two-exam sprint and used through it.

  2. Next

    Teacher dashboard

A place for teachers to design lessons, build the workbooks students write on and set the mark schemes the marking agent is grounded in.

  3. Next

    Student dashboard

Students upload their own course content and create personal tutor agents from it, each one grounded in what they are actually studying.

  4. Later

    One platform

Lessons designed by teachers reach students' tablets, and the feedback loop runs end to end on paper.
